Paul Harvey's affiliates told of replacements; WGN-AM won't announce plans 'until next week'

Paul Harvey's affiliates have been told by ABC Radio Networks of plans to begin offering programs with Gil Gross and Doug Limerick in place of Harvey's Chicago-based daily reports and commentaries after this week's tribute shows to the late broadcaster.

But, even as RadioInk.com reported the details Wednesday, it wasn't immediately clear how many of the 600 or so stations that carried Harvey will embrace the new fare.

"Out of respect to Paul Harvey, his family and the ABC Radio Network, we are going to wait until next week before making any announcement," Tom Langmyer, vice president and general manager of WGN-AM 720, Harvey's hometown outlet, told the Chicago Tribune.

Harvey died Saturday at age 90 near his winter home in Arizona. He had been in the radio for 75 years, broadcasting nationally since 1951. At his peak, his programs aired on 1,200 U.S. stations.

Chicago Tribune parent Tribune Co. owns WGN-AM.
