Radio host Blagojevich takes jab at Quinn
March 25, 2009 7:11 AM
Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich emerged from a short seclusion and returned to the spotlight this morning with a temp job as a radio talk show host.
Blagojevich began taking calls, talking with guests and telling stories for two hours starting at 7:09 a.m. as the fill-in host of the "Don Wade & Roma Morning Show" on WLS-AM 890.
He signed on with: "Good morning, this is former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, and how are you?"
But it didn't take him long to inject politics into the show, criticizing Gov. Pat Quinn for proposing to raise the state income tax rate. The former governor noted that his own earlier prediction that the people who were trying to oust him would raise taxes if he were to be impeached had come to pass. He called a tax increase "the worst thing to do."
Scheduled guests included comedian D.L. Hughley, host of 'D.L. Hughley Breaks the News,' and Second City actors starring in the troupe's musical, 'Rod Blagojevich Superstar,' a spoof on the former governor.
Blagojevich's most recent publicity-seeking comes even as a federal corruption indictment against him is expected any day. He's accused of selling President Barack Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat, among other things.
Blagojevich maintains he's innocent.
The station had offered Blagojevich his own weekend show in January if he resigned as governor. He didn't quit and he didn't get the show.
