I think Garry did an outstanding job on WGN a few weeks back. I also think Randy Miller did every bit as good a job. No one in this town knows Randy but he has the chops to win people over, just like Spike, John Williams and Steve Cochran have done.
If I'm Langmeyer and Metheny right now, I'm balancing my feeling that Garry would be good on the air with the feeling that his track record as a corporate citizen and his current intransigence might not bode so well for the future. I'd be leaning to Miller or some unknown dark horse candidate right now.
While I was at it, I'd re-evaluate the morning move I just made. John Williams is a fine midday host. I'm not feeling it in the morning with John. He's not the warm, friendly move-the-elements presider that O'Dell, Collins and Phillips were. Steve Cochran doesn't seem to get a lot of love on this board, but he would have been a much better choice for mornings.
Kevin Metheny is a slow-and-steady wins the race kind of PD. He sure worked magic in Cleveland. I'm still betting in his favor.
