All radio stations get "weeklies" now. They don't have to wait the whole month to know the numbers, since each week they can see where they ranked about two weeks prior. The monthly ratings shown on here are the combination & average of the 4 weeklies before it. Between Arbitron's weeklies and weekly internal sales reports, those in charge of the radio stations should always have a pretty good feel of where they are at all times.
That being said, the current vacancy at WGN's afternoon time slot has nothing directly to do with those. They have known for a while who their 1st & 2nd choice for that time slot was. For whatever reason (money, freedom, contract terms, fate), it hasn't worked for them yet. It's becoming embarrassing for them, but it should all be worked out soon. Then, this whole period will be forgotten quickly.
