Garry Meier Named WGN Radio's 1-4pm Host
April 2, 2009 - WGN Radio has just announced that Chicago radio veteran Garry Meier has been named the host of the weekday 1-4pm time slot on WGN Radio. Meier's first day on the air will be Friday, April 3.
"We would have announced this yesterday, but... April Fool's Day? No one would have believed it. We're delighted Garry has agreed to bring his game-changing talent to WGN Radio" said WGN Radio Program Director Kevin Metheny.
Meier rose to prominence in Chicago as part of one of the most successful number one radio duos in the country, the Steve & Garry Show. The fifteen-year run garnered international publicity, as well as an Emmy for the TV show Greetings From Graceland. Meier also gained renown for his highly successful eight-year run on the Roe & Garry Show. In addition to these accomplishments, Meier has displayed his wit and energy as a solo host and as a feature reporter for WGN-TV's morning show.
"Garry Meier is a household name in Chicago and has already brought many new listeners to WGN" said Tom Langmyer, Vice President/General Manager of WGN Radio. "He's contemporary, smart, hip and fun. He's a great fit for today's new Voice of Chicago!"
"To have honed my broadcasting skills over the years listening to Ron Santo, to work on the same station as him is pure heaven. C'mon!" said Meier.
Meier has won five A.I.R. Awards for Best Afternoon Show in Chicago and was awarded the National Radio and Records Award for Best Local Afternoon Talk Show Host in America. His segments have appeared on local and national television including World News Tonight. Garry has also been recognized multiple years by Talkers Magazine as one of the "100 Most Influential Talk Show Hosts in America."
