While continuing as chief meteorologist at NBC-owned WMAQ-Channel 5, Brant Miller has been signed to host mornings on WZZN-FM (94.7), the Citadel Broadcasting "True Oldies" station.
Starting Monday, he'll be on from 6 to 10 a.m. weekdays. He replaces Scott Mackay, morning host since December 2006.
For Miller, it's a homecoming of sorts. From 1977 to 1991, he was a popular radio personality on ABC's legendary Top 40 WLS-AM (890) and its FM counterpart, which eventually morphed into WZZN.
"The opportunity to return to the radio station I know so well is extremely rewarding," Miller said. "It is an honor for me to join 94.7 FM and share the music we all love with the best listeners."
Hiring Miller is the first major move by Mike Fowler since he became president and general manager of the station in January. The two previously worked together when Fowler ran former oldies WJMK-FM (104.3).
"Brant is the perfect choice for mornings on 94.7," Fowler said. "He has been a major player in the Chicago market for more than 30 years, and he has always had a passion for our music."
Other changes to the lineup next week will include new hours for Greg Brown (from 3 to 7 p.m.) and Dick Biondi (from 7 to 11 p.m.). New York-based Scott Shannon will continue on recorded voice tracks during other times.
While still working in radio, Miller segued to weather forecasting in 1989 when he started as a part-timer at Fox-owned WFLD-Channel 32. He moved to Channel 5 in 1991. He also appears on the Sun-Times' daily "Weather Watch."
Miller, who began in radio during high school in his native Portland, Ore., worked for stations in Denver, Dallas, Honolulu and Washington, D.C., before coming to Chicago. He hosted mornings on adult-contemporary WTMX-FM (101.9) from 1993 to 1994, and more recently has been delivering weather reports for country WUSN-FM (99.5).
