R&R has learned that progressive talker Randi Rhodes has will be joining Premiere Radio Networks weekdays from 3-6 p.m. starting May 11. The show will originate from Washington, D.C. and launches with more than 25 affiliates, including Clear Channel progressive talk outlets KTLK/Los Angeles; KKGN/San Francisco; and KPOJ/Portland, Ore..
Rhodes’ syndication efforts have suffered a number of setbacks over the last few years. She was most recently syndicated by the Nova M network before a contract dispute took her off the air. The network folded just days later. Before that, she worked with Air America, who suspended her for inappropriate statements about Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro made at an appearance for KKGN. Rhodes never came back on Air America after the suspension, leaving to join the ill-fated Nova M.
KKGN PD John Scott, who has been a Rhodes affiilate through each incarnation and its eventual implosion, says, "It's my guess the Premiere version of the Rhodes show will be the most polished, most supported, most highly produced version of that show in her career. These folks at Premiere don't mess around. It will be a pleasure to hear her content delivered by true professionals. Progressive radio and online content deserves a seat at the table. When we do it right, the people show up."
Talking of her return to national syndication, Rhodes says, "Right now, America needs a voice that reflects its hopes and concerns. It will be my privilege and pleasure to provide vital information to the public about everything that is possible in the 21st century and also have a few laughs along the way."
