: WEEKEND SPOTLIGHT
: Mr. Fix-It
: This month we chat with everyone's favorite home improvement man, Mr. Fix-It, Lou Manfredini! You can hear Lou every Saturday morning from 6 to 9am on WGN Radio.
: Describe your background in home improvement and your background in radio.
: I started in the construction industry as a welder in the early 80s fabricating basement steel for houses and installing it. Then I became a carpenter's apprentice and a few years later started my own remodeling business and eventually a development company that built new homes in Chicago. I wrote a letter to several radio stations in 1994 with the idea of a radio show on home improvement. WGN Radio gave me a shot first with Bob Collins and then with Roy Leonard. And in spite of all the advice they both gave me I am still here!
:
: What do you enjoy most about doing your show?
: The chance to help listeners with their problems, and to try and make them smile along the way too.
:
: When you're not behind the mic, what can we find you doing?
: Lots of things; I host and executive produce a nationally syndicated TV show called House Smarts. Along with my wife, I own an Ace Hardware store in Chicago. And I act as the national spokesperson for a few companies. I am working on two new books currently as well. Oh, and cleaning up after my dog Enzo!

: When it comes to home improvement, what's your #1 tip to listeners?
: Never hold a nail for someone else!
