Bob Collins appeal: Federal appeals court rejects family's suit in fatal 2000 plane crash

The 7th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals upheld on Friday a federal judge's decision not to hold the government financially liable for the 2000 plane crash that killed WGN radio host Bob Collins.

The Collins family had sought millions in damages, arguing mistakes by an air traffic controller and a lack of radar were to blame for the in-flight collision. The appeals court upheld the finding that while the Federal Aviation Administration could be found to be at fault, the government is shielded from such legal action.
