Fox lays off 6 full-timers, cuts 12 relief positions
Fox-owned WFLD-Channel 32 shed six full-time newsroom positions Wednesday and eliminated 12 vacation-relief positions that the station characterized as long-term temporary employees. The full-time staff cuts did not involve any on-air talent, but did include one field producer, one union courier, one Web producer, a special projects producer, a segment producer and a copy editor.
Sources had been predicting layoffs at WFLD since last week. Like most TV outlets in Chicago, WFLD is reeling from a dropoff in advertising revenue that is happening throughout the broadcasting industry. But WFLD is pulling in less revenue than others in the local market, because its newscasts generally trend at the lower end of the ratings spectrum among all Chicago TV stations.
