Darn. There goes Drex's voiceover career.
: Clear Channel Radio has pulled the plug on its gay dance music channel here.
: Since 2006, "Pride Radio" had been airing online and on the HD2 channel of Clear Channel's Top 40 WKSC-FM (103.5).
: The format targeted gay and lesbian listeners with upbeat, dance-oriented music. Core artists included Madonna, Cher, Pink and Beyonce.
: Initially, it also was to feature entertainment news, celebrity gossip, fashion tips and other talk elements, but it evolved into a nonstop music outlet.
: Within months of its launch here, it spread to dozens of Web sites and HD channels from coast to coast.
: But lack of audience interest -- as measured by online hits -- prompted Clear Channel execs to drop "Pride Radio" locally. No complaints were reported.
: Since late last month, the HD2 channel has been airing all-new Top 40 music compatible with the format of Kiss FM.
: "The whole point of these HD2 channels is to experiment," said Darren Davis, vice president of programming and operations for Clear Channel in Chicago. "We have the freedom to try different things and different formats."
