After 10 years as president and general manager of WMAQ-Channel 5, Larry Wert could be moving up the NBC corporate ladder.

The west suburban Riverside native and longtime Chicago broadcast executive appears to be in line to oversee all of NBC's West Coast station operations, including those in Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego.

Wert would continue to be based in Chicago and manage Channel 5 here, sources said.

The move is part of an overall management reorganization of the NBC stations that could be announced as soon as today.

Wert, 51, who joined NBC in 1998 after 10 years as a top radio executive with Evergreen Media and its successors, could not be reached for comment.

Word of Wert's promotion first appeared as a rumor Wednesday.
