The 955CatCountry.com website was started up a few weeks ago and featured a Shockwave Flash countdown clock, showing that a radio station was going to flip to a Country format on June 1st at Noon CST. On May 15th, a Twitter page for 955CatCountry was started. The only posting was "Counting down the days!" On that Twitter page, they also started following numerous Country stars Twitter pages, as well as those of numerous Chicago icons (WGN news, Steve Dahl, Time Out Chicago, White Sox, etc.), leading one to believe it was a Chicago-based Country station coming soon.
Here it is June 2nd. That June 1st deadline, has come and gone by just over 24 hours and no station, Chicago market or otherwise, has flipped to 95.5 "Cat Country." Now the question is, was this just an elaborate hoax by an anonymous jokester or was Clear Channel wasting energy with a red herring to keep people away from knowing about their "Mega" decision?
Either way, whatever the reasons for the deception, whoever was behind "Cat Country" schemes, now just looks like a Country Pussy.
