AROUND TOWN - June 4, 2009
Danny Mac is back.
WSCR-AM 670 announced Wednesday that Dan McNeil is returning to the station. McNeil, an original Score personality and Chicago sports broadcast veteran, most recently worked for rival WMVP-AM 1000 as part of the "Mac, Jurko and Harry" show.
"The Danny Mac Show" will launch June 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"It's going to be a blast. I can't wait until June 15," McNeil said during Wednesday's Boers & Bernstein Show. A decision on McNeil's broadcast partner is expected to be announced soon.
The hiring of McNeil, who faced several suspensions at WMVP, dislodges the previous 10 a.m. to noon "Hampton & Holmes" show that featured Bears Hall of Famer Dan Hampton and Laurence Holmes. Also displaced is noon to 2 p.m. host Mike Murphy.
"Laurence Holmes is still going to be involved with the radio station, talking different 'day' parts. And Hamp is going to be involved in more of a football and Bears role," said Mitch Rosen, WSCR-AM program director.
"We've offered Murph an opportunity to do something on talk at night and other day parts. He and I will communicate more about it. That's how everything shakes out."
Murphy, the consummate Cubs fan, is a Score original.
"Murph was one of the first people on the air and I know how important he is to the station," said Rosen. "I truly hope he stays around and is on the air with us for a while to come. I love the guy."
The new daytime lineup will be:
5 a.m.-9 a.m.: Mully & Hanley ( Mike Mulligan and Brian Hanley)
9 a.m.-1 p.m.: Danny Mac
1 p.m.-6 p.m.: Boers & Bernstein(McNeil will contribute to Terry Boers and Dan Bernstein for the first half hour)
Meanwhile, Bears defensive legends Ed O'Bradovich and Doug Buffone are joining ChicagoSportsWebio.com after serving as broadcasts partners on WSCR.
"They have hosted the best Bears postgame show for several years and, as in the past, Doug and 'OB' will be out with the fans at remote locations during the Bears' season," David Hernandez, president and CEO of ChicagoSportsWebio.com, said in a statement.
O'Bradovich and Buffone will throw out a ceremonial first pitch before Thursday's White Sox-Oakland game at U.S. Cellular Field.
