WGN America has named Julio Marenghi executive vice president of sales and distribution, charged with overseeing all top-line sales efforts growing distribution and managing the national cable channel’s day-to-day operations.
An industry veteran with more than 30 years of sales experience, Marenghi previously held significant leadership roles at CBS Television Stations.
“WGN America is a great brand with tremendous potential for growth," Marenghi said in the announcement. "I want to expand our reach and take this operation to the next level."
As CBS' 27-station group's president of advertising sales,he was responsible for their strategic management, operation and top-line sales, increasing market share by 10 percent and improving the revenue rank in all of CBS’ top seven markets.
Before that, Marenghi served as president and general manager of CBS’ New England triopoly of stations and numerous sales positions at television stations on both coasts.
“The strong relationships he’s forged across the television advertising industry will serve WGN America well," Ed Wilson, president of Tribune Broadcasting, said in a statement.
Chicago Tribune parent Tribune Co. also owns WGN America, which carries some programming from Tribune Co.'s WGN-Ch.9 but is a stand-alone cable and satellite channel primarily seen outside the Chicago area.
