WGN Radio Announces New Morning Line-up
June 15, 2009
WGN Radio today announced that veteran radio host, news anchor and correspondent Greg Jarrett will join the station as the morning host on June 22. Jarrett will lead the morning team from 5am to 9am and John Williams will host the 9am to 12 noon talk show.
"This is an exciting time in the evolution of WGN. Greg brings his incredible knowledge of current events and a unique style that plays well with the strengths of our already familiar and successful morning show," said Tom Langmyer, Vice President/General Manager of WGN Radio. "We're also pleased to name John Williams as host from 9am to 12 noon. John is a versatile broadcaster who has done a tremendous job at WGN in several roles. We're excited for his return to long-form talk, where he can share his perspectives, strengths and in-depth interview skills."
Jarrett was previously an afternoon host, news anchor and on-air correspondent for the legendary heritage radio station KGO-AM in San Francisco. In addition to his extensive experience at KGO, Greg has also traveled the world as a correspondent for ABC News, covering events ranging from Operation Desert Storm as a combat pool correspondent to the last Bush-Gorbachev Summit in Moscow to the original Iraqi invasion in 2003, where he was an embedded correspondent with the Purple Foxes, the United States Marine Corps helicopter squadron.
"I became acquainted with and grew to admire John Williams' work years ago when I programmed a competing Twin Cities radio station. I became acquainted with and grew to admire Greg Jarrett's work years ago when I programmed a competing San Francisco radio station. I am delighted now we can all admire their work on Chicago's WGN Radio," said Kevin Metheny, WGN Radio Program Director.
"The most fun I've had at WGN was working middays and I'm anxious to get back to that time slot," said Williams.
"I have always wanted to work in Chicago. When I first started in radio at age 17 we would sit around late at night and listen to WGN. It was the ideal, the place to work. WGN Radio connects Chicagoans to each other and the rest of the world. It is an honor to now be part of that process," said Jarrett.
