Michael Vick canceled his highly touted live radio interview with Tom Joyner this morning.

Joyner, the popular and influential host, was in Norfolk to broadcast live from Clear Channel, but at 6 a.m. he announced that Vick had backed out on the advice of his attorneys.

"Mike was very apologetic," Joyner told his radio audience at the top of the show. "He said he really wanted to do it, but all of his advisors are advising him not to because people are taking everything out of context. He was afraid they might take any part of our interview out of context as he talks to black America. "He's got a sentencing coming up, and he doesn't want to jeopardize anything."

Joyner's live interview with Vick, scheduled for the day after his guilty plea in a federal dogfighting investigation, had drawn intense interest. Vick did a brief, pre-recorded interview with an Atlanta radio station last month in which the interviewer was instructed to avoid any question about the investigation, and he made a statement to the media after entering his guilty plea yesterday but did not answer questions.

The Joyner interview, which was going to include questions from callers as well as from the host himself, was going to be the first time Vick would have to answer direct questions.
