I know the above does not read as if it were written by a competent copy editor, but it indeed was.
Other things that come to mind:
* In the age of TMZ and a million other sites, who really needs blanket CNN coverage of celebrity scandal and death? You'd think that with so many sources for this stuff now, news organizations would be able to sort of check themselves into rehab for their celebrity habit, get straight and sober, and finally remember what it was they're supposed to be doing.
It's not that you can't put a huge celebrity death at the top of an evening newscast. It is news, it is interesting and it does impact a lot of people emotionally. But it's not just an evening newscast any more, it's a 24/7 cycle. And as the amount of airtime and space available has expanded, it seems, the fluff has expanded in even greater proportion.
