John Gallagher Named Market Manager of Greater Media Detroit
Greater Media, Inc. announced today that John F. Gallagher has been named Market Manager of its Detroit-based radio properties, including WRIF-FM, WCSX-FM and WMGC-FM. He will begin his new position on May 5th, 2008.
The 23-year radio veteran most recently served as the Vice President/Market Manager of ABC Radio/890 WLS in Chicago. Prior to that, he worked as the Director of Sales at WJR (AM) in Detroit.
"John is a man of great character and intellect," said Greater Media, Inc. President and CEO Peter Smyth. "We are pleased to welcome him to the Greater Media family."
"Greater Media is one of the top companies in the industry," said Gallagher. "The stations in Detroit have been market leaders for many years. I look forward to working with a great team of professionals."
He will report directly to Greater Media Vice President/Regional Manager John Fullam, who is responsible for overseeing the company's Detroit and Philadelphia markets.
Gallagher began his career with ABC in April of 1985. In November of 1987, he was named Business Manager at WJR-AM/WHYT-FM Detroit, before becoming an Account Executive with WJR-AM in 1991. He was subsequently promoted to National Sales Manager in 1993 and General Sales Manager in 1995. In 1998, Gallagher became the Director of Sales for WJR-AM and WPLT-FM Detroit.
He was promoted to President and General Manager of WLS 890/WRDZ 1300 Chicago in October 2004. In July 2006, Gallagher was given the additional responsibility of serving as President and General Manager of 94.7 Chicago's True Oldies Channel.
Gallagher graduated from Villanova University with a B.S. degree in Accountancy. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and is a past member of the Board of Directors for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society in the Metro Detroit area.
