WFMT benefit: Dinner raises funds for show on public radio
July 9, 2009 | Pioneer Press
A June 23 dinner in Chicago raised nearly $80,000 in support of the WFMT Radio Network program "Exploring Music" with Bill McLaughlin. The dinner, attended by several Wilmette residents, was held in the Red Lacquer Room at the Palmer House Hotel in downtown Chicago. The hotel also was underwriter for the event.
McLaughlin's show airs at 7 p.m. locally every week night on the radio station WFMT-FM (98.7), as well as 48 markets throughout the country.
The Juilliard String Quartet performed in the Empire Room at the hotel prior to the dinner, for an audience of 200 WFMT supporters, including many members of the WFMT board of trustees. McLaughlin provided commentary.
Also in attendance for the performance and dinner, through the generosity of some anonymous donors, were students from the Merit School of Music and the Music Institute of Chicago, as well as families from the Starlight Foundation.
