Weigel's WCIU gets its man: Dick Tracy named director of content

Attention crimestoppers: Weigel Broadcasting on Monday named Dick Tracy -- yes, that's his name -- its director of content for WCIU-Ch. 26 and its other Chicago properties, effective immediately.

Tracy comes with 25 years' experience in advertising, the last 11 as vice president/creative director at DDB Chicago, developing multi-platform content for McDonald's, Budweiser, Bud Light, CapitalOne and other brands.

"Mobile and the internet has changed everything," Tracy said in a statement. "The lines between all forms of communication have blurred and content is king. So, I don't believe it's a big leap from ad content creator to broadcast content creator."

WCIU last week announced plans for news segments that will be interspersed this fall with weekday morning programming on WCIU's primary channel 26.1, The U, as well as its digital subchannel channel 26.2, Me TV. Those segments will be reformatted for digital platforms such as the Internet and mobile phones.

Tracy's responsibilities include creating content as well as integrating new formats, platforms and technologies to expand Weigel's Chicago entertainment and local information lineup, which also includes digital channel 26.3 (Me Too) and 26.4 (This).

"We are pleased to find a talent like Dick to help us create content for multiple delivery platforms," Neal Sabin, Weigel Broadcasting Co.'s executive vice president, said in the company's announcement. "Our industry is going through a transition. Integration and innovation are areas we are committed to delivering on for our viewers."
