The microphone Les Grobstein used to record the Lee Elia rant can be yours for the low, low price of...
Grobstein can't say. But he might have an interested buyer in the White Sox's clubhouse.
While waiting to interview players after Sunday's Orioles-Sox game, Grobstein heard A.J. Pierzynski break out his best Elia impersonation: "Rip those [bleep] ..."
After Grobstein said his mike was the same one that had been used on April 29, 1983, Pierzynski relayed the news to Paul Konerko.
"Paul said, 'Really?' and then he looked at with me with a straight face: 'How much do you want for it?' " Grobstein recalled. "I told him: 'Let's talk when you back from the road trip.' "
Grobstein pledged to give a "chunk" from any sale to Chicago Baseball Cancer Charities, the organization benefiting from the sale of Elia's new signed baseballs.
"Lee has been encouraging me to do something with it," Grobstein said of the mike. "I have a friend with an eBay account or I might give it to an auction house. If I'm going to do anything with it, this is the time."
