The two best in that competition were Chip & Connor. Michael Oshita was absolutely horrible on his auditions and never should have made it to the final four to begin with. The only reason he was ahead in the online voting was because of the same reasons the worst singer on American Idol gets a lot of votes: there are people who think it is funny to vote the worst possible contestant as the winner. Javier Cervantes had a great voice, a good sense of humor, and decent sports knowledge, but he also made a few mistakes with his on air audition. Personally, I was really pulling for Chip Egan. Between he & Connor, I felt he had the most to offer the Score. Connor is very self-assured and smooth on the radio, but he also sounds much too young & immature. Chip is a complete pro on the air, but also has the maturity that Connor seems to lack.
Congrats to Connor, though. Had anybody besides Chip or Connor won, the contest would have been a sham. Connor will do fine there.
Additionally, I hope that all this exposure leads to something good in radio for Chip Egan, soon. Perhaps at the Score at some point in the future, perhaps WMVP, perhaps WBBM. He's proven he has what it takes.
: Although Michael Oshita won the online vote at 670thescore.com, he & Javier Cervantes were eliminated on 670 The SCORE this Saturday night from 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park. The winner of the first "SCORE Search" to become WSCR's newest sports reporter & occasional "Scoreboard Update" anchor is Connor McKnight. Connor defeated Chip Egan and will be signing on officially in September.
