Earlier this week, the Circuit Court of Cook County handed down its ruling in the appeals case of "Todd W. Musburger, Ltd. vs Garry Meier." The Musburger law firm had sued Garry Meier over legal fees they claimed were owed to them while they were acting as his agent in his failed negotiations with WLS. (This was back when Garry & Roe eventually split)
Garry Meier was unhappy with how he was being represented, fired the firm and hired his wife to act as his agent instead. Normally, the firm would have taken 5% of Garry's contract as their fee, but since they were fired and since no contract was ever finalized, they instead went after him for hours worked. They initially sought over $92,000, but a jury awarded the Musburger firm just over $68,000 instead. Even with the lesser number number, Meier's attorneys disagreed with the judgement and appealed that decision, but that award was upheld on Monday.
