I was fascinated by the telethon as a kid, God knows why. I'd try to stay up all night both for the novelty of watching something 24 hours and hoping to catch a glimpse of Hulk Hogan or someone cool like that, and inevitably fall asleep and miss it.....but always see plenty of Norm Crosby and bad dance numbers! I blame my mom, she's always been a big fan of Jerry.
Jerry looks old, but not quite as bad as he did around '03 (I think) when he was on steroids fighting some illness and looked so bloated he was about ready to float away.
Bart and Nadia.....they've been doing the telethon for at least 15 years and I have no idea why.
: It seems hard to believe, but WGN's CW9 & WGN America, formerly Superstation WGN, has been broadcasting the annual Jerry Lewis' MDA Telethon for 30 years on the Tribune-owned stations alone. It did feel different on the national level watching a little bit of it NOT seeing or hearing the voice of longtime announcer Ed McMahon. Watching just a little bit of it, it felt a little different not hearing Ed introduce Jerry, along with co-hosts Tom Bergeron from "Dancing with the Stars" & "America's Funniest Home Videos", "Entertainment Tonight's" Jann Carl, "Access Hollywood's" Nancy O'Dell and Alison Sweeney from "Days of our Lives" and "The Biggest Loser". I think it was the first time people may have noticed the loss of Ed's golden pipes since his death days before the death of Michael Jackson. Then again, on the local level, two people that have been helped Chicago out for years now are the husband & wife team of Bart Conner & Nadia Comenici. Naturally, those two former Olympians wasted little time making their support known for Chicago's 2016 Summer Olympic bid.
