U2 is doing a lot of press & publicity while in town for these few days. They even recorded an interview with Mancow in their hotel room earlier in the day. (I'm sure when he plays it back on the air on Monday, he will verbally rip them, especially Bono.) At least they had some fun with WXRT's staff. The following comes from the Tribune website today:

Bono creates a buzz in Chicago

U2 is stealing hearts with its traveling show this weekend in Chicago, as Bono and Co. kick off the North American leg of their 360 Tour at Soldier Field for a two-night set beginning Saturday.

But there was much promoting to be done before that, despite both shows being practically sold out (single seats for Sunday were available as of press time). A gaggle of press and curious-onlookers caught the four band members as they entered NBC Tower for an afternoon radio interview. Camera phones captured the 30 seconds it took the band to rush from van to building, a soundtrack of squeals and "Bono, we love you!" ringing from the crowd.

Asked if the band liked playing in Chicago, Bono said, "That's why we chose here [to launch our tour]." The concert DVD for the band's last tour was filmed at the United Center and was titled "Vertigo 2005: Live from Chicago."

The band was set to rehearse Friday night at Soldier Field under clear skies and a 150-foot-tall stage structure that resembles the Claw game at Chuck E. Cheese. Crews had been assembling the 180-ton behemoth all week.
