Bears in HD TV

It looked like not all of the cameras covering last nights game were HD. Is this normal? I kept switching between HD and the regular channel and OK the HD had much better sound the regular channel and HD seemed the same at times? When they were down on the field it looked HD but when they were doing the wider shots it looked like standard def. and looked grainy at times? Is it just me or does anyone else notice this as well?
