Yes, although in the cases of larger markets such as Chicago those channels seem to be better at doing what they do. New York has NY1; Long Island, northern NJ and SW Connecticut each have versions of Cablevision's News 12; most of New England has New England Cable News. Orange County CA has such a channel, as do many parts of Florida. For some parts of larger markets, these channels provide "local" news that may be lost by their in-market broadcast stations. Especially true of the NY and LA markets, where there are large population areas in the suburbs that don't really get a local newscast.
Anyway, those were just a few examples, there are many more.
None are spectacular, but CLTV is pretty weak even by those paltry standards.
By the way, lets not mistake my O.P. as being a fan of CLTV; rather, I can't see how this struggling channel makes it given this move. Also, I'm sick of Comcrap cutting back on content and in such a piecemeal, sneaky, way.
: I'm not sure what the point of CLTV is. So we can get Chicago news all day? Is it really that important? I wouldn't be surprised if they completely kill CLTV. Do other cities have stations like this?
