Tampa Florida's BAY NEWS 9 (Google it) is doing the CLTV-type thing WAY better. In fact, it's being done quite geniously. BAY9 is owned and operated by the local cable company, Bright House Networks, so the default channel on the local cable service IS Bay News 9. So every time a new customer, or old customer, turns on their cable box, they get Bay News 9..

: Yes, although in the cases of larger markets such as Chicago those channels seem to be better at doing what they do. New York has NY1; Long Island, northern NJ and SW Connecticut each have versions of Cablevision's News 12; most of New England has New England Cable News. Orange County CA has such a channel, as do many parts of Florida. For some parts of larger markets, these channels provide "local" news that may be lost by their in-market broadcast stations. Especially true of the NY and LA markets, where there are large population areas in the suburbs that don't really get a local newscast.
