In the newest issue of Scary Monsters Magazine (on some newsstand/bookstore shelves next week), Mancow writes about Svengoolie inside of it. Svengoolie himself wrote the following blog about the experience this afternoon on the WCIU website:

Mancow Reports on Sven in "Scary Monsters"

I got a package today from our pal Dennis Druktenis, publisher and guiding light of "Scary Monsters" magazine -- and it contained the latest issue, # 72 -- with a great rendering of Oliver Reed's wolfman from "Curse of the Werewolf" on the cover. The reason Dennis sent the magazine -- is that it has a couple articles about yours truly -- one regarding my celebrating my 30th Sven-iversary and winning the Rondo award as "favorite horror host", and one about a visit to our studio by none other than WLS radio personality Mancow!

I remember that Mancow, after visiting with us and having a couple cameo roles in our "Island of Dr. Moreau" show, had mentioned that he was going to write an article about the experience for a horror magazine -- but, quite honestly, had forgotten all about that -- until the magazine arrived today! It's a really nice article -- with a bunch of cool pictures, and Mancow's personal account about coming to be a part of the show, along with a brief interview he did with me. He was very kind -- and, by the way, made a great guest on the show. He's been a fan for a long time, and, I had to laugh when he asked about coming to be on the show -- 'I know you're waiting for the other shoe to drop, but, it's not gonna happen" he had said "I'll wear a mask if you want -- it's not about me -- I just want to be able to be apart of the show." He was serious -- when he showed up, he had a full head mask with him, and was unaware that I had written a couple lines for him, and had planned on him being on-camera, with no mask. He did get to do a job that is coveted by many Sven fans -- he got to play the "hand at the door" -- along with being the punch line to a bit in which I was supposedly talking to Dr. Moreau about the way he had made his combinations of men and animals -- the final one being a combination of a human and a cow... so, naturally, it was Mancow!

At the beginning of his "Scary Monsters" Sven article, Mancow writes about his friendship with Al "Grandpa Munster" Lewis, who had hosted his own horror movie show on TBS in Atlanta -- and was a frequent guest on Mancow's show. Mancow writes about how, when Al was doing those shows for TBS, it seemed that he was really just kind of going through the motions of playing his character, just reading the cue cards so he could collect a check. Mancow also writes about other hosts he enjoyed, like the great Zacherley, and other horror greats that he has met through the auspices of his broadcast career. It's a fun article and I hope you'll check it out -- it also includes a picture of the typical cover of one of our scripts! Plus, there's a lot of great information and entertaining reading for any real horror fan. My thanks to Mancow for a very flattering article, and to "Scary Monsters" and Dennis, who have always been very kind in supporting our show.

People ask -- does it still seem exciting to get written up on a newspaper or magazine? Maybe I sound like a greenhorn goolie, but -- yes. It's always kind of a nice pat on the back (which, as one of my teachers used to tell me, is just about 18 inches from being a kick in the rear) -- when I see that Paige Wiser has included me in her TV highlights for Saturday, or get a newspaper clipping from a fan who found an article about me, it still means something to me.
