Chicago TV plans for IOC 2016 host city vote in Copenhagen
It's going to be crowded in the media center in Copenhagen, where the International Olympic Committee is set to announce the host city for the 2016 Summer Games next week.
Although chicagotribune.com should have everything you need, what follows below are local TV station's plans for coverage, updated as each outlet provides the latest information:
WBBM-Ch. 2: Jay Levine will be in Copenhagen. Live coverage of Chicago's final presentation to the IOC and the Chicago 2016 press conference on Friday, Oct. 2, is set to begin around 1:45 a.m. Special coverage of the host city selection, anchored by Rob Johnson in Chicago, is set to start at 9 a.m.
WMAQ-Ch. 5: Phil Rogers will begin live reports from Copenhagen on Tuesday. On Friday, Oct. 2, Chicago's final presentation and news conference will be broadcast live on Channel 5 and streamed on nbcchicago.com, beginning coverage at 1:45 a.m. The station will begin continuous coverage on the air and online at 9 a.m., anchored in Chicago by Allison Rosati and Rob Stafford, until the voting is concluded and the host city is announced, with the Universal Sports cable channel and Web sure simulcasting Channel 5's coverage until 1 p.m.
WLS-Ch. 7: Ben Bradley.will report on the air and online from Copenhagen beginning Tuesday. Channel 7 will broadcast live coverage of Chicago’s presentation to the IOC and the following news conference beginning at approximately 1:45 a.m., beginning its morning newscast a half-hour earlier at 4:30 a.m. Special coverage, anchored by Linda Yu and Sylvia Perez, will begin at 10 a.m. The station's abc7chicago.com Web site will carry all of the final four bid cities' presentations, including Tokyo (3:25 a.m.), Rio (5:05 a.m.) and Madrid (7:45 a.m.).
Chicago Tribune parent Tribune Co.'s WGN-Ch. 9 and CLTV: Antwan Lewis will be in Copenhagen. WGN and CLTV will carry Chicago's presentation beginning at 1:30 a.m. CLTV's live Olympic coverage will begin at 9 a.m. and WGN joining at 10 a.m. CLTV will break away at 12:30 p.m. to take calls from viewers. WGNtv.com/2016 will have a live stream of the announcement at noon.
WFLD-Ch. 32: Jeff Goldblatt will begin reporting on the air and on his MyFoxChicago.com blog from Copenhagen on Tuesday. A half-hour special, "Chicago's Olympic Bid," is set for 5 p.m. on Oct. 1. Live coverage on Oct. 2 of Chicago 2016's presentation and news conference is set to be carried live from approximately 1:45 a.m. to 2:45 a.m.. Live coverage will continue at 5 a.m. with its morning news until 1 p.m. A 5 p.m. Friday special will either be titled "Chicago Olympic Countdown" or "Chicago's Olympic Bid," as results warrant.
(It's not TV, but WBBM-AM 780 is sending reporter-anchor Steve Grzanich to Copenhagen to cover the 2016 sweepstakes all week.)
Comcast SportsNet Chicago: If Chicago is named the host city, the cable sports channel plans a half-hour special at 11 p.m. on Oct. 2 called "2016 -- Chicago's Got It," which will feature highlights of the official announcement from Copenhagen and the celebration at Daley Plaza, as well as a one-on-one interview with Mayor Daley by Dan Jiggetts.
