Porterfield returns to the news desk

September 27, 2009

BY MICHAEL SNEED Sun-Times Columnist

Veteran newsman Harry Porterfield -- who claims he originally wanted to be a chemist, never had any intention of going into broadcasting and is now back co-anchoring the news at Channel 2 -- is setting the record straight on his controversial departure from the station in 1985.

Translation: Porterfield, 81, discusses how he became an "accidental symbol" for the black boycott of Channel 2 at 10 p.m. on the "Sunday Night Radio Special" with Bob Sirott and Marianne Murciano on WGN-AM (720).
