A couple of weeks back, Mitch Allen passed away. For 22 years, Mitch had worked in radio all over the country including Peoria's WPBG and stations in Virginia Beach, Pittsburgh, and Nashville. Additionally, Mitch programmed radio stations in Illinois, Wisconsin and Arkansas; and was a teacher for broadcasting students in Nashville.
His most recent radio job was overnight news (via Shadow/Metro) on WLS-AM, his favorite station of all time growing up. This past weekend, there was a memorial service for Mitch in Calhoon, GA. His family played one of his newscasts from WLS for those in attendance. It has not been publicly stated how he passed away at 46, but there were reports of him being very depressed in the weeks leading up to his death.
Mitch was a very good newsman, jock and radio guy..he will be missed.
