Conan is clearly the worst regular host of The Tonight Show and his horrible performance (along with that of boneheaded NBC executives) has put the entire network in some jeopardy. There is some talk of paying Conan his $40 million play or pay penalty (ouch) and returning Leno to The Tonight Show.

The latest rumor is that NBC (network or affiliates on their own) might move the late local news to 9pm (central time, 10pm elsewhere) and run Leno at 935pm/1035pm followed by Conan and Fallon.

It's hard to see how NBC can stay the current course.
