On October 27th, The Sun-Times' Stella Foster mentioned that December 5th will be Herb Kent Day, a high honor for the man who has been a radio DJ for an astonishing 65 years. (As opposed to Mancow Muller, who somehow received a similar honor recently for being able to go one whole year without being fired from WLS, but I digress...) Here are some details about the big party in Herb Kent's honor:
The Roast & Toast for the "Cool Gent" will be on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the South Shore Cultural Center (7059 South Shore Dr., Chicago) and it is being presented by (and a fundraiser for) Real Men Cook of Chicago.
The schedule is:
6:00pm Cocktail Reception
7:00pm Roast and Toast
9:00pm Afterglow: featuring Real Men Cook Sweet Potato Pound Cake, Real Men Cook Coffee & Cordials
There will be numerous special guests, hosts & roasters involved. Among those scheduled to appear are: Governor Quinn, Mayor Daley, Smokey Robinson, Eddie Levert, Freddy Jackson, Adele Givens, Ramonski Love, Joe Soto and Doug Banks.
There are a few different ticket packages available, including a VIP package that comes with a personally signed autobiography of Herb Kent. To purchase tickets and for more information, click on the link below. This event is expected to be a sell out, so don't delay.
