Tom Taylor had this to say about WGN's John Williams in his daily Radio-Info newsletter this morning:
Chicago's WGN (720) makes sure Chicago has a Christmas tree on Michigan Avenue. Midday personality John Williams was indignant (he said on the air) that the city was budgeting $125,000 for a tree while it's laying people off for budget reasons. So he asked listeners for help - and they got a 25-foot tree donated, which John will cut in Morris, Illinois next Tuesday. Then WGN listeners have donated use of a truck to transport it, lights (from a hardware store), a crane, etc. They're calling it "The People's Tree", shining in the Nathan Hale courtyard of Tribune Tower. Listeners are invited to drop off their own ornaments.
