Neither WLS-AM or WGN-AM have really specified in their branding that they are competing against each other. While they both identify themselves as "talk stations" and a source for news, the brand of talk between the two is quite different, with WLS being more political news orientated and current events, like. WGN has a lot more room for more non-serious and contemporary topics.
WIND-AM previously made a strong pitch to compete against WLS, with little slogans like "the only talk station with traffic every 15 minutes," and such. WLS for a while responded by ending their news with the slogan "WLS... live, local and first."
