While the ambush shooting of four cops in Lakewood (a suburb of Tacoma, WA) is not a local story in the Chicago area, the tragedy is a sharp reminder of what took place at a Lane Bryant store in Tinley Park, IL. The situation in Lakewood involved the murder of four police officers, who total, have left behind nine children.

The "Ron and Don Show," an afternoon drive show on the Seattle news/talker KIRO (formely 710 AM, now at 97.3 FM), will be putting together a benefit of some sorts later this week to try and help the families of the fallen officers. I'll post that information when it becomes available, but in the mean time, if anyone is indeed interested in helping out these families through donations, you may find out how by visiting the Lakewood Police Independent Guild website at http://www.lpig.us/.

In the meantime, if you care to follow "Ron and Don" (which by the way, is an excellent show in itself... reminds me of a Roe and Garry in some ways, yet a bit more informational, and they do talk about national issues in addition to some things in Seattle), you may do so on their blog at http://www.mynorthwest.com/?nid=110. They KIRO show airs weekdays from 5 to 9 p.m. CHICAGO time; you can listen live at MyNorthwest.com.
