TBWA\Chiat\Day, Q101/Chicago Named Radio-Mercury Winners
LOS ANGELES -- May 21, 2008: TBWA\Chiat\Day took the $100,000 Grand Prize at the Radio-Mercury Awards for radio creative, presented this evening in Los Angeles. The winning spot, "Broken Heart," was created for Mars brand Combos. It's the third consecutive year the New York-based agency has won an award, but its first Grand Prize.
Taking the $5,000 prize in the Station-Produced category was Emmis Alternative WKQX (Q101)/Chicago, for an Aptera Motors commercial. The $5,000 Spanish-Language prize went to Bromley Communications, for a Continental Airlines spot, and Miami-based ad agency La Comunidad took its first Urban category prize, winning $5,000 with a spot for Mun2.
The first winner of the brand-new Radio Innovations Award was Richards Group, for a Fruit of the Loom commercial. The agency used multiple forms of radio as the driving force of an integrated multimedia campaign.
Winning $5,000 each in two new award categories were Martin|Williams, taking the Political prize with its spot for Protect Minnesota, and Radio Savant Productions, capturing honors in the Entertainment category with a commercial for Big Bear Mountain Resorts.
The University of Texas at Austin won the $2,500 Student prize with a spot created for the Austin Silent Film Festival, and agency Erwin-Penland took the Public Service Announcement award for an ad produced for Clemson University, and will choose a charity to receive the $2,500 prize.
Agency winners in the General category were BVK, for Shorewest Realty Co.; Crispin Porter + Bogusky, for Coke Zero; DDB Canada, for Phillips; Damman Pearce, for Finnegan's Ale, GSD&M Idea City, for Norwegian Cruise Lines; and Saatchi & Saatchi, for Smith Micro Systems.
