George Michael was one of my inspirations to get into radio. I grew up in New York in the 60s and 70s listening to Music Radio WABC. It was everything to us that WLS was to many of you, maybe even more. George came over from WFIL in Philly to succeed Cousin Brucie in the 6pm to 10pm slot on WABC. I listened to him just about every night. Awesome jock. He had always dreamed of doing baseball PBP so some time around 1980 he left WABC to do PBP fro the Orioles, then ended up on WRC-TV and his syndicated Sports Machine. I'm listening to him play Junior's Farm on WABC in 1974 right now - you can, too, at the link below. It's worth a listen. East coast Top 40 had a different sound from Midwest and West Coast versions. RIP George.
