Java Joel is the best example you could come up with to make your point? Really? Nothing against Java, but I could think of several hundred better examples. Being a white male, I have been told dozens of times that I did not land a gig because they were looking for a female voice. I have also been told dozens of times I did not get the gig for absolutely no reason, and to see the position go to a person who I felt had inferior experience or performance to myself. I came to the conclusion a long time ago, working in an industry that is totally subjective in their hiring practices, that I would drive myself to madness if I attempted to blame someone or something because I did not land said job. I would be lying if I said it didn't sting when someone lands a gig I was going after, but that's the nature of the business. Contrary to what you may believe, "sad", not all women sleep their way to a position. To suggest so is unto of itself sexist, which is something that seemed to bother you enough to write a post. Sure, there have been cases of that in the past. I've been in this industry for well over two decades, and let me tell you something...those that get a gig because they slept their way in, or daddy knows someone who gets them hired...guess what? They have a very, very short shelf life. They become as tired as yesterday's news, and they usually haul a ton of emotional baggage, which becomes their undoing. It's funny how through the years, the names change, but the scenarios and outcomes are almost always the same. Happy New Year, "sad", and try not to be so bitter in 2010. The effort you put into your bitterness would be much better directed at achieving new career goals.
