"Looking at last year's billing from Chicago Tribune I see the "Nine FM" frequencies billed about 2 million while WCPT-AM billed the lowest in the market (CPT-FM only started in October 2008)"

I'm not sure how they handled sales internally for the -AM and -FM frequencies so it will be interesting to see the new numbers. I don't imagine there will be much of a drop-off though as the decision to dump Nine FM was weighed highly before the change was made.

"Another thing, WSPY cashed in with 1.1 Million last year. That station covers mostly open field and runs Citadel Media's AC format much of the time along with a heavy amount of community oriented talk. Superserve your community, get PAID. Seriously it's all right there! They must have a great sales team as well."

It probably has something to do with a combination of both a good sales team and being located in a place with very little community competition. If you're one of the only active players in an area, you're usually guaranteed to succeed as long as you don't screw something up.
