WFLD-TV is announcing on its website that Sun-Times columnist Bill Zwecker will be joining the station's newscasts beginning tonight. Zwecker will be the entertainment contributor for the 9:00pm Fox Chicago News newscast, as well as making periodic visits to WLFD's "Good Day Chicago" morning program, which airs from 5:00am-10:00am weekday mornings. Zwecker's movie reviews will also be added to the MyFoxChicago.com website.
Bill Zwecker previously worked as the entertainment reporter and movie critic for the Channel 32 newscasts from 2000 to 2003. Prior to that, he did the same for seven years on WMAQ-TV's newscasts. After his almost three years on Fox, he spent six years being the entertainment contributor to WBBM-TV. After a wave of layoffs wiped away much of CBS2's staff last April, Zwecker has been off TV. The Chicago native seems quite happy to be back on television, though. Zwecker had this to say in a statement today: "I am thrilled to be back at Fox Chicago, bringing audiences a look into our city's vibrant entertainment scene, as well as the latest celebrity news from Hollywood, New York and around the world."
There is another addition to Fox's "Good Day Chicago" program, although this one seems to have happened without any fanfare. Last month, WFLD hired Lou Canellis to be the sports anchor for their morning show. This may be the very last media outlet in town that Lou Canellis hasn't previously worked at. The Chicago media veteran has been with WBBM-TV, WMAQ-TV, WLS-TV, Sports Channel, Cablevision, WMVP-AM, WCKG-FM, WLUP-FM, One-On-One Sports, ABC Radio, and many more. He may be best known for being the host of CLTV's Sunday night sports program, "Sports Page," a position he still holds. A versatile talent, he has also done his fair share of entertainment & dining programs, in addition to sports.
