Jan 5, 2010
BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Started working 2a-6a Saturday and Sunday at WZND at Illinois State. Got fired! Interned for Russell Rush at WBNQ, eventually got part-time... Got fired! Moved to Peoria to do part-time. I came in to work hung over one day and was asked to be Promotions Director! Said HEEEELLL YEAH! And as the two years have passed, people have left, and I have been here to take charge!
1. How did you become interested in radio?
Listening to Sludge back in the day! He was a riot!
2. What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
Rock 103.5, Q101, and B96 in Chicago. I used to record songs with my cassette tapes!
3. You are a jack of all trades programming The Buzz, multiple airshifts and promotion director duties for the cluster. Take us through your typical non-stop day?
Wake up "oh shit, am I late?" Shower, get to work... make calls, plan the day. At 10am I'm on 98.5 KISS FM taking calls, prepping the shift, and planning promotions. From then until about 3p I take calls from reps, talk with Jim Stacy about life, schedule some music, make a few commercials... And then I am back on the air on The Buzz from 3-7p. And sometimes, after that I have a remote to do! Its safe to say I am in about 2 to 6 bars a week for remotes.
4. What part of your job do you like best? Least?
Best: Listening to great music and getting calls from listeners who love the station.
Least: That's there is not enough time in the day to stay ahead of things.
5. What has been your biggest challenge since taking over PD duties of The Buzz?
Coaching the staff to follow the leader. Not that they are being insubordinate, but just having someone new explaining to them how things need to be done on-air.
6. How would you describe the music and imaging on The Buzz?
Imaging is fast, unique, and the music is pretty upbeat for the most part. I feel I have a great variety of new music, lined up with killer golds.
7. What makes The Buzz unique?
I would say the new, variety of music we are bringing into the Peoria Market. A lot of what we get to play no one can touch, and alternative/rock music seems to be sounding pretty good these days.
8. What would an outsider find most surprising about the Peoria radio market?
The young talent that is growing in the market.
9. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _________?
A low carb monster energy drink.
10. If you wanted to completely change careers today what would you do?
Drive Monster Trucks. World finals this year were pretty sweet! I tried to introduce myself to the personalities for the rock station doing a remote, and they didn't seem too interested.
