WGN's Pat Hughes Wins IL Sportscaster of the Year Award

Pat Hughes, WGN-AM's radio play-by-play announcer for all of the Chicago Cubs games, has been named as the Illinois Sportscaster of the Year for 2009 by the National Sportscasters & Sportswriters Association.

This is not the first time that Virgil Patrick "Pat" Hughes has won the Sportscaster of the Year award. It's actually his eighth time with this honor. In his 14 years of doing Chicago Cubs baseball on the radio, this is his fifth award. He also was a radio announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers for 12 years, and won that award for Wisconsin Sportscaster of the Year three years in a row.

The award will be presented in early May at the NSSA'a 51st annual awards program in Salisbury, NC, where the organization is headquartered.
