Politics Blog: Former TV anchor Rebecca Kleefisch joins Lt. Gov race

Former television news anchor Rebecca Kleefisch is announcing her candidacy for lieutenant governor today. Kleefisch, who describes herself as a "Christian wife, mom and conservative" on Twitter, said in a press release she is running because she can't afford to watch liberal politicians rob her two children of their futures.

"This election is about ‘kitchen table common sense,'" she said in a statement. "Wisconsin families make tough decisions around their kitchen tables every day, but government doesn't seem to feel the same pressures you and I do."

Kleefisch, the wife of Rep. Joel Kleefisch, R-Oconomowoc, described the lieutenant governor position as "the Marketing VP" and said the state needs someone who can craft compelling messages about why businesses should come to Wisconsin and create jobs. This is her first run for public office.

Kleefisch is the eighth person to announce candidacy in the race. She joins three other Republicans-Ben Collins, Brett Davis, R-Oregon, and Dave Ross, the mayor of Superior. Democrats Henry Sanders, James L. Schneider, Ald. Tony Zielinski of Milwaukee, also have registered as candidates, and Sen. Spencer Coggs, D-Milwaukee, has announced his plans to run.
