Tom Joyner expands reach, adds Soul 106 to Power 92
A little more than 13 months after buying his way back onto Chicago airwaves in a deal with Crawford Broadcasting's WSRB-FM/WYRB-FM 106.3 , Tom Joyner is expanding his reach locally with an agreement to simulcast his morning program over Crawford's WPWX-FM 92.3 as of Wednesday.
"Finally listeners don't have to drive with their computers to hear us when they leave the South Side," Joyner said in a statement Tuesday, acknowledging his reach will expand within the Chicago and Northwest Indiana market.
Joyner's nationally syndicated program landed with Crawford here in the city where his career took flight in the 1970s in late April 2009. That was about a month after Clear Channel abruptly bounced him WVAZ-FM 102.7, his radio home in Chicago since 1996, in favor of moving Steve Harvey's national show over from WGCI-FM 107.5.
With Joyner's show doubling up on Power 92 in addition to Soul 106 from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m., Crawford will move current WSRB-FM morning man Shannon "Trey the Choklit Jok" Brazier to 9 a.m. to noon. Other shortened shifts will include Shawn Knight from noon to 3 p.m. and Sam Sylk from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
