Richard Steele, whose radio career here spans nearly 40 years, has been named host of "Eight Forty-Eight," the weekday morning newsmagazine on Chicago Public Radio WBEZ-FM (91.5).
He succeeds Steve Edwards, who just returned from a Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellowship at the University of Michigan to become acting program director at WBEZ.
Steele had been slated to host "Right Now," a new afternoon talk show set to debut this fall. But the program's launch has been delayed indefinitely.
Gabriel Spitzer, who's been filling in Monday through Thursday during Edwards' leave from the morning show, will return to reporting duty. Alison Cuddy will continue to host the show on Fridays.
"Eight Forty-Eight" airs from 9 to 10 a.m. (and repeats from 8 to 9 p.m.).
Also at WBEZ, "Hello Beautiful!," the Sunday morning arts showcase, has been dropped.
