'Jack' cuts back on Dahl

Following an alarming decline under Arbitron's Portable People Meter ratings system, Steve Dahl has lost the 9 a.m. hour of his morning show on CBS Radio adult hits WJMK-FM (104.3).

From now on, his show will start a half-hour earlier (at 5 a.m. each weekday) and end at 9 a.m. He's on vacation this week.

In the latest ratings, Dahl's show plunged to 31st place with a 0.9 percent share -- down from 16th with a 2.4 share in the last Arbitron diary report. In adults between 25 and 54, his show fell to 28th with 1.3 share -- down from seventh with a 3.2 share.

As a lead-in to WJMK's "Jack FM" music format, Dahl's show is providing virtually no traction.

Rod Zimmerman, CBS Radio senior vice president and market manager, downplayed the significance of the move, saying it simply reflected changing patterns in morning drive listening.

But he acknowledged that no other adjustments were planned to the hours of the morning shows on CBS' six other stations in the market.
