Recently arrested Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich's web of corruption may even have entangled the Radio Hall of Fame. In an interview with Chicago public television station WTTW, Hall of Fame chairman Bruce DuMont said the governor approached him in 2005 offering $8 million in state funds for the Hall. Construction began based on that promise, but the money never materialized.

When construction ground to a halt, a wealthy Illinois resident offered a $6 million bridge loan to keep the project moving forward, but a representative from the governor's office said they would have to "check everybody's political stripes." When it turned out the donor was a fundraiser for Blagojevich's opponent in the 2006 election, DuMont was told to pass on the loan or forfeit the initial state funds.
